Ocean Theatre Company began in 1996 in Brisbane, Australia.
Its first production, Anything Goes, was staged in January 1997 at the Tivoli Theatre, Brisbane. This was followed by Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins to critical acclaim. Singin’ in the Rain soon succeeded in the Queensland Conservatorium.
Singin’ was nominated for 6 awards including Best Director, Best Musical Director and Best Choreographer and won 3 (Best Musical, Best Set and Best Actor).
In 2002 Ocean became a private limited company which then produced the successful musical comedy Lucky Stiff marking it's first step into the theatre scene in London.
It then produced Cosi, at the Bridewell Theatre, The Pirates of Penzance, on board The Golden Hinde and a new musical, The Music is the Hero.
Last year has seen Ocean revive Sandy Wilson's lost classic The Buccaneer (Finborough Theatre) and we held our first script workshop for our new commissioned piece: The Den which we plan to bring to audience this year.
Also we launched a new initiative of working with young people in creating exciting shows but with talented younger casts. The first of these productions was Stephen Sondheim's acclaimed musical SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Ocean Youth has since gone on to create 9 major productions and has been showcased on ITV.
